asked on

renaming my single label domain name

I inherited an organizations network that was setup with the domain name local.  This is becoming an issue now that I am trying to bring them to Server 08 and Exchange 2010.  What is the best way to change the domain structure, without causing too much interruption to the environment? ie.. change it from local to mcso.local or so.montezuma.co.us

Why is it an issue - that's quite normal for the majority of servers currently in production?

The future from about 2016 is going away from .local domains, but for now, that's perfectly normal and shouldn't cause you any problems.

Yes it is a 2003 domain with exchange 2003.  Thanks i will check those articles out
It is a relatively straight forward process as long as you do it right and if you avoid the .local domain name as it is being phased out, you will protect yourself for the future.
Thank you, I will give it a shot

Sure - shout if you get stuck.

You have selected your own comment as the closing solution - which isn't the right way to close.  I will object to the closure to allow you to re-close accepting a comment or comments that helped you resolve the issue, or you can wait until you have renamed the domain and then close it down.

Alan
great guidance, I think this will point me in the right direction
