How to increase the number of FTP connection limit in LINUX server.

Hi Experts,
         I am having problem with my Linux based server while downloading files from my ftp server if the number of connection exceeds then I am not able to login on the server and get the following message
"Too many connection from this IP(8)".

         I want to increase the number of connection limit for the ftp user so that from single userid more peoples can login. How can I do that in Linux. Please reply soon with some details of the command as I am newbie for Linux.
