Thanks for the help. I was able to access the FTP server by using the servers address instead of the name.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI am troubleshooting access to ftp servers from within a domain behind an IPCOP firewall. I know that ftp access is working because when I attempt to connect to an "other" ftp server, everything works fine. For example, I can directly access this ftp site using windows explorer: ftp://OtherUser@ftp.OtherS
However, when I try to access my own externally hosted ftp site (which shares the same name as my network domain) I am not able to access that site. For example, I cannot access ftp://User@ftp.MySite.com and I think it may have something to do with the fact that my own Active Directory uses the same name MySite.com. I get an FTP folder error saying "The server name or address could not be resolved"
Does anyone have any ideas why I am able to access one ftp server and not the other? Thanks,

Is your FTP site in your DMZ? Or is it hosted somewhere? If it is hosted in your DMZ the problem is, that traffic must exit the firewall and then re-enter, which is generally not allowed. One suggestion is to allow ftp traffic from your inside interface to your dmz interface. In order for it to work via friendly name youll have to poison DNS. I.E. make a dns entry with the internal ip address of the FTP server. If friendly name isnt important then after allowing the FTP traffic you should be able to browse to it via the Ftp servers address.
