Question

FTP can connect to server but stalls on waiting for Welcome Message

Asked by: bmilne1957

I'm trying to setup an FTP site on a SBS 2008 Standard Server; I am able to connect and logon at the server at the command prompt successfully and directory list. When I try to access the FTP site remotely all I am able to do is connect.

Here is what I receive from the FTP client, I have tried inserting the administrator account credentials into the ftp client and I have tried loging on anonymously

You need to forward port 80 and 443 from your firewall to your SBS server.

Sounds like the typical firewall problem.

Open both ports 20 (FTP Data) and 21 (FTP Control) at he firewall.

On my original post I meant 20 & 21.
80 & 443 is for your web server.
