I have few computers in my office all using Win XP SP2. there is no Win 2003 server as setup is small. for internet we have a DSL line.
in one of my system with Win XP sp2, I have created a share folder, and on all the user PC's I have mapped network driver so that all of them can save the files in the system having share folder. now in this case a user 'A' can see the files save by user 'B'
I would like to know if in that shared folder I create sub folder say 'USER A' and 'USER B' how can i restrict user A not to view the files saved by user B in his folder which is a sub folder under the main Shared Folder.
in short I need a parent shared folder in which users can save files which they want to share with others, and same time I need to implement the way where user can save their files in their named folders which are not viewable to others.
Create user A and user B in the computer that has the share. Make sure they do NOT have local administrative rights. Now inside the shared folder, create a subfolder for both users. Right click on the folder and then select properties. From there, select security and give the user who's supposed to see that folder access. Make sure that "everyone" does not have any access to those folders either.
You could create a share on each of the subfolders mentioned above also. Each user can have 2 mapped drives--one for "group" and one for "user." They wouldn't have to go to the main share each time just to drill down and save their own files.
