Question

Why do some documents fail to print on network but give every indication that they have ?

Asked by: tmandu

Windows 2008 environment, Windows Office Pro XP  Word, TCPIP running, Shared Network printer, Ricoh PCL 6 , printer settings-> spool print documents first so program finishes printing faster, start printing immediatley, enable advanced printing features, WinPRint, RAW.
First we dont think this is a print driver problem, but who knows.

The problem: When a user goes to print a  particular WORD document or a particular EXCEL document, they have the default printer selected which is above and press print. the printer icon appears very quickly, but doesnt give the message "Your document has been sent to the printer xyz, At the printer there is no document. When looking at the all the printers from the server the job does not come up, all other jobs do show up. There is no record of the job either in the MFG. history file for completed jobs.

This happens erratically, and we know that the print spooler is running on all print and file servers. Again it is not all WORD or EXCEL items . The stranger thing about this is that this is happening on two different print/file servers on our network.   ( the other is a WIn2003 server)

When the user asks me to print the document , there is no problem ... TCPIP ????

How are your connections to the printer setup? IE. Do you have a print server that everyones connections are going to or have you manually added the printer to individual PC's?
If you go through a print server then it's probably not a print driver issue as you said it works fine from your machine.

However in either case first thing to try is a print driver update, I would personally recommend an RPCS driver is an alternative.

try to make a copy of it and print that, or make some changes in it before printing

Andoss,  The spooler will not accept one or two particular jobs. It just rejects it, RPCS driver not sure what that is. THe printers are high speed commercial printers that come with there own drivers.

There are 3 types of print drivers for most model Ricoh printers, PCL, RPCS and PS.
RPCS (as i've had it explained to me) tends to be newer drivers with newer technologies for print formatting etc. Personally I've found if i have problems with an RPCS driver I switch to PCL or vice versa.
If you can provide the model of the printer I can give you a link to an updated driver for it. Or you can try find it at http://ricoh.com.au/svl2/423/Downloads.aspx
