The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Web services on the web server can't access resources on a network share.

Tags: Microsoft, Windows Server 2003 Web Edition, Installed behind a firewall in a DMZ
I have a web server running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition installed in a DMZ.  I have another server on the other side of the firewall that hosts a network share containing various MS Access databases (DBs).  The websites being hosted on the web server need to access those DBs in order to display various information.  I've opened up an exception in the firewall which allows the web server to access the network share, and I'm able to add/modify files on it ok when I'm logged into the web server.  However, when I enter the datapaths to the access DBs on that share (either with a drive letter mapping or as \\IP\share\directory\filename) into the coding of the websites, the web programs give an error saying that the files/directories don't exist.  If I copy the files to the local drive of the web server and give the web program that datapath, it works fine.  Due to the nature of the program and layout of the network, I can't have those files reside locally on the web server in the DMZ, they need to be on our file server behind the firewall.

What can I do to allow the Windows web services to access network resources, i.e. network shares?
