The above article recommends changing your Vista security settings... I do NOT recommend that... especially if you're in an enterprise environment where there are likely MULTIPLE Vista systems and only one (or two?) Samba systems.
The MOST common issue is that Samba Domain Controllers aren't used to having to be WINS servers, nor provide multiple other service & lookup requests that an AD controller usually does.
The easy fix is to run winbind (actually, winbindd)... even though you're not connected to an AD server.
As no one has mentioned it here on E-E yet, I'll add it here -- if you're planning an early adoption of Windows 7, don't yet -- Windows 7 cannot join an NT type domain (Windows NT, Windows Server 2000 in compatibility mode, or Samba 3) AT ALL so far... Microsoft is aware of the issue, and has said they'll fix it in Windows 7 eventually -- but for now, it just won't work (no clue as to whether Windows 7 will join a Samba 4 AD yet! :-))
I hope this helps!

Vista, by default doesn't allow the use of NTLM responses. Samba uses NTLM. Try this:
