XP cannot view workgroup over VPN, mapped network drives cannot connect

Asked by tfairley in Active Directory, Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

I have a VPN (PPTP) into a seperate office, the connection is working just find and I can easily connect to the VPN server and I get a LAN IP address from it.  Once I'm connected, I cannot browse the network inside (that office uses a different "workgroup" name) and I cannot add a mapped drive to the server there.  I also cannot use remote desktop to login to the server from the VPN (again, trying to use the computer name, not the IP).

Computer browser service is running on my laptop (I haven't been able to check that it is running on the "server")
