Unable to umount nfs mount from nfs client?

Hi
We have nfs hard mount point on aix 4.2 box
nfs server is down ( backup server)
we are trying to unount nfs mount point from client .
while trying we are getting below message
umount: 1831-015 16 error while unmounting xxxa6:/BACKUP_ALL/AIX/xxx_bkp -
The requested resource is busy.

Have you tried this (as root) ?

cd /
umount -f /path-to-troubled-filesystem

If umount -f does not resolve the problem, you could also try (as root):

stopsrc -g nfs

...wait about a minute...

startsrc -g nfs

This will stop all nfs services to all other NFS hosts.
If you do not wish to stop NFS, there is no real harm leaving the "stale" NFS filesystem mounted.
If stopping and restarting NFS does not resolve the problem, you may have no choice but to reboot
the client, if you absolutely need to free the NFS mount point.

umount  stopsrc procedure (which you mentioned above) is not giving solution. it is continuing with the same. with fuser and umount -n option will help ? I am not sure .

umount -n    will only limit the umount attempt to a specific node.
fuser     will display the process or processes that are currently accessing a file or filesystem.

You could try

fuser -ucx /nfs_filesystem

This will show you the processes using the nfs filesystem.
If they can all be terminated, you can then use

fuser -kucx /nfs_filesystem

to stop the processes using the filesystem.

When there are no more processes accessing the nfs filesystem you can try the umount -f again.

If server has been lost while NFS was mounted for a moment AIX has to be rebooted. Complain to IBM.

      Your way is giving solution . but we are having lot of NFS clients which is having the same problem? we are looking for alternate solution.

Like how to convert NFS hardmount to soft mount ? so that this problem may be resolved ?!!!!!!!!!!

You can use automount which holds rarely used mounts umounted, so problem is less evident. THERE IS NO SOLUTION. First words from IBM support will be "do you have good network?".
