The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. NFS is blocking other filesystems?

I have this following setup
server(RHEL4) with fuse based filesystem, the fuse mounted filesystem is exported via nfs (rw,sync,no_root_squash,fsid=1)
client (Fedora7) mounts the exported filesystem with options (rw,soft)

All is fine, until for some reason fuse backend(on server side) stalls for a reason. Then client operations stalls as well. So far so good.
Unfortunately all other hdd i/o on the client stall as well. The client becomes irresponsible until the nfs is back operating. By irresponsible I mean, that any applications(process) that tries to touch local filesystem(software raid if it matters) is put into uninterrupted sleep (state D in top).

Are there any nfs/kernel options to avoid that? It's OK, that the application using nfs share is stalled, but why all other are stalled as well?Start Free Trial
