SMS updating the collection through AD groups

I am running SMS 2003.
I am trying to use AD groups to populate the Collections by using Query statements.
AD 2000 native mode running on 2003 servers (same site).
It takes 24-48 hours to populate to collection from the group. Even when I run the Query, it will not populate faster. An associate of mine told me SMS actually queries the workstations so until the workstations gain the group memberships (ie a reboot) they will not show up. I can't believe this but.....
The group is RG_SJC_SMS_Office Communicator, and all I want is everything in the group.
Query statement:
select Name, SMSUniqueIdentifier from SMS_R_System where SystemGroupName like "%RG_SJC_SMS_Office Communicator%"Start Free Trial
