Stop Domain Master Browser election

Hi Guys,

I got thousands of computer-name entries in my samba server's nmbd.log file. I probably have messed up something here in samba. Could someone please assist?

Following are some of the entries.

 HOMESKEY(228) current master browser = ADRIAN-LAPTOP

Maybe the master browser in your network changes all the time? If you want the samba server to be the master browser, look at the settings "local master" and "os level" in smb.conf ("man smb.conf" for details).

If you have a separate domain controller, you should probably NOT mess with those settings though.

Sorry for delay in response wilhelm_voigt. I have 4 separate Windows 2003 based domain controllers so definitely I dont want this machine to be a DC.

Can XP machines be master browsers because most of the machines in nmbd.log file are xp based desktops and laptops? Changing of master browser all the time doesn't look a normal activity, does it?
