Automatic SFTP file transfer

I have some important backups that I need to drag down and then deleted from my remote web server, I have been using FileZilla for this, as it has SFTP options.

The problem is the backups need dragging down every night and doing this will an ftp client is such a drag. I am wondering if anyone knows of some software to automatically drag these files down via SFTP or a script of some sort?

Is your interest is in automating the task regardless of being ftp or sftp or you want to automate for sftp only?

So in this case you may use command line sftp clients like the one that comes with putty and then you need to:
- set trust between the two systems (or the putty client supports passing username and password as parameters)
- schedule the task

as you use filzilla take a look at http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Command-line_arguments

The idea of using the filezilla command line is more 'appealing' as I am already using the filezilla client, but I am unsure how I actually transfer the files down?

I have got it successfully to connect to my server, but unsure how I get the files, there didn't seem to be anything about this on the page supplied?
