HP iLO will not start
Good day. I have one server that every time I attempt to launch the iLO Configuration utility it does not launch. I can see both the GUI and the iLO applications in the task manager but nothing comes up. I also see that the the two files that get created in the C:\Program Files\HP\hponcfg when the applications opens are there but since I have to force quit the applications form the Task manager, they stay there permanently and the next time I try to start iLO, it creates new files.
Any idea what is going on?
I have attempted to restart the server with no luck. I am starting it "As Administrator". I am a domain admin as well. This is on a Windows 2008 R2 server. All my other servers work just fine.

Can you take a look at the eventlog on the server to see what errors the HP Ilo logs to the event log.

This is the only error I see:
I also noticed that I can't access the HP Insight Diagnostics Online Edition for Windows or the HP System Management. Basically can't access anything that point to localhost.

I ran the "Update Drivers" on the adapter and it stated that the latest driver was installed. I am confused though. I have two adapters showing in the Network connections section. One is disabled and another is enabled. Which one would this error be talking about?
All of the steps you mentioned above seem to require that I be physical at the site. I am not local hence need steps to take to do remotely. I won't be able to travel to the location until the end of the month.

Is the iLO plugged into the network?
The two NICs are the integrated ones and if they are not teamed, then likely one is not plugged in and disabled.
As far as the localhost issue, I don't think I've seen the HP Management web applet ever work on our 2008R2 servers. I'm sure it's probably the Enhanced Security in IE that is blocking, but I've never looked into it because we use an Insight Management server remotely that talks to the agents on each box. I see the same info as if I could launch the local HP Management web applet.
You can try running the latest PSP for that server and even if it comes back as all detected items are current, you can force reinstall them to see if that corrects the issues.
What model Proliant is this?

Well, I checked the binding order of the NICs and the active NIC was second below the disabled NIC. I move it up and rebooted. No luck still.
When I launch the iLO GUI, after about 3 minutes I receive two errors stating that I should check the xmlerror and xmloutput files that were created. I check those and nothing shows. After about another minute or two, the GUI appears but if I click anything, it becomes non-responsive.
I am at a remote site and can't physically check to see if it is plugged in. How can I check remotely to see if it is plugged in?
By the way, Enhanced Security on IE is disabled on this server. I have server other Win Server 2008 R2 servers and they all work.
The server is an HP Proliant DL380 G4

So, I ran a ping sweep using the tool mentioned by netman66 but that tool , although a great tool, does determine what has an IP address on the given server. It is for subnet sweeps. I have no way of knowing if there is an IP address used for this server outside of what is used for the main NIC.
Any other ideas on determining whether it has an IP on iLO NIC remotely?

Are you running the current HP ProLiant Support Pack for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 ?
Have you checked the firmware is up to date ?

I am not sure about the support pack or the firmware as I have not checked either. How would I determine what versions of either are on the server?
if the SMH (Systems Management Homepage) is installed, it will tell you the versions, if the SMH is not installed, the PSP (Proliant Support Pack) is probably not installed
You can also see if the PSP is installed in add/remove programs

So, every time I try to launch SMH I receive a "Internet Explorer cannot display this page' message on my browser.
I am on Windows 2008 R2 so no add/remove programs. I checked Programs and Features and I did not see Proliant Support Pack listed.
Where could I download the latest version of PSP that i would need?

So I installed the PSP and it only installed one portion as it seems the rest was already installed. No updates were required as well. Back to square one with this. I have been receiving some crash dump errors when restarting the server recently, but not sure if that is related to this issue.
are you able to get into the SMH ?
is the SMH service running ?

Yes, the service is running.

I wonder if IE is locked down on the server, you could try connecting from a different computer, SMH will work with Firefox, but not very well with Chrome.
You could also try installing Firefox on the server, but trying from a different computer is less invasive.

The issue seems to be more in-depth than just iLO. I checked and there is an ethernet cable connected to the iLO NIC. As mentioned above, I also cannot open HP SMH as well as anything else related to HP diagnostic software.

An iLO is a dedicated management adapter - either integrated on the mainboard or a separate card. It does NOT share the regular NIC card. If it did, how would you manage it out-of-band?
Check to see that your AV isn't blocking the HP tools from running.

Apologies, my bad description.
On modern HP servers (think you could do it on G5, certainly on G6) , the iLo "can be configured" to share the same PHY as one of the NICs
You can have more than one MAC on a PHY.
I'll see if I can find a manual

The AV does not seem to be blocking these utilities. When I open up the iLO configuration utility, it seems to hang on open and while transitioning between tabs. Everything shows default and when I attempt to make changes and save them, I will receive errors or it will crash.
sounds like what I experienced and posted about in 38870153

How would I know what version was the previous version? I'm not sure how to even find the current version of what it has.
you could just try older and older ones....

The issue is still outstanding but the priority has been dropped from high to low. Will revisit at a later time.
