Ok do this...
http://YOU_IP_ADDRESS/the_
put the filename too, also check the file even exists in the document root.
That double slash is an error - should be:
<Directory "/home/myName/htdocs">
After correcting it, you'll need to stop and restart the server (apachecfg restart should do it - might have to locate apachecfg first<G>).
Then, you want to look to see what DirectoryIndex is set to - that gives the order that pages are selected when you give a directory without the exact file specified. If you don't have one of those files, you probably don't have Options Indexes set - which means that you don't have permission to view the directory listing.
Hi thanks again for the reply
I did correct it but it dint work
>>Then, you want to look to see what DirectoryIndex is set to
This is how it looks
DirectoryIndex index.html index.html.var
I have the index, html.var in the htdacs directory but I dont have the "index.html"
I tried putting a file names index.html ..but dint work either
>>, you probably don't have Options Indexes set - which means that you don't have permission to view the directory listing.
What do I have to do to view the directory listing....
Since this is installed in my laptop I can log in as root and work

Also ...if this means something
When I try to start the server as a "User"
user#apachet1 start
(I am unable to start it) I get this error
(13)Permission denied :make_sock:Cannot bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listning sockets available shutting dowm
'Unable to open los
But when "su" and log as the Root
root#apachect1 start
httpd(pid 13843)already runnin

I really appreciate your patience and your effort
Thanks once agin
su as root, and shut down apache, via apachectl:
apachectl stop
then, issue the following command:
ps ax | grep -i apache
This will tell you if there are other apache processes running. There shouldn't be at this point!
After you have verified that all apache processes are stopped, issue:
apachectl start
that will start it up again. I think you may have several instances of the apache daemon running.
Thanks for u'r promt replies and suggestions ...I think I figured the error
Though I dont understand why....
It works for
http://localhost:8080/
not for just http://localhost/
I would appreciate if u could explaim me the reson ... thanks
Thanks so much I seem to understand a bit more abt apache now ..
It time for me to delve into the Bioinformatic problem on hand .But I am sure with the help from you great guys out there I suspect that at least the comp part will not be a problem

try accessing it on your machine using the IP address instead...
http://123.123.123.123/ example. DONT user 127.0.0.1 or localhost
