You can use .htaccess files. If you're on Windows. this name might confuse you as the names look like the extension, but the extension is the name! In unix-systems, files that begin with a dot are hidden, that's why. You can use the following tutorials:
om/howto/h taccess.sh tml cs/howto/h taccess.ht ml
/password. php
http://www.javascriptkit.c
http://httpd.apache.org/do
You can set many things in .htaccess, among which the password protection of directories. Note that your apache httpd.conf configuration should be set to use .htaccess. If you have a hosting provider, ask them whether they support this. Most do.
In fact you need two more files: .htgroup and .htpasswd, to set the users and their passwords, and the groups to which they belong. Per directory you can use a .htaccess file and specify which groups can access the directory. This applies to all child directories as well. There are tools to create the passwords, and all those .ht-files are normal text files!
Just google for them, or use http://www.4webhelp.net/us
