hi,
i have a redhat linux server built with RHEL 3. The apache version is 2.0.46. i want to upgrade it to at least 2.0.51. alas my knowledge of this sort of thing is not great. i tried following a guide i found and it half worked.
i downloaded a source, untared it, configure/make/make install etc. however the new version of apache got installed to a different directory and with a different directory structure to that used by the current version of apache on redhat(/var/www/html). at this point i gave up as i now have two installations of apache instead of the one!
anyone got a decent step by step guide to upgfrading apache on redhat?

dont think theres any custom configurations... nothing springs to mind. i've been using it straight out of the box so to speak.
as for RPM's. probably getting a bit off topic but i'm not really very sure how to use them. got any quick info.
i presume i just pull the relevant file down to the machine, unpack it, then?...
Actually, things are very easy with RPM. It's like an installer.
The simplest path is to run "rpm --upgrade" against the RPM file, like this:
rpm --upgrade httpd-2.0.59-1.i386.rpm

i got the following dependency failures. also. what is the suggestion? i tried up2date on httpd but it reports that httpd is already up to date.

Hmm. I think there was also a tool that handles all the dependencies as well.
However, it looks like you have some packages the depend on the current version:
httpd = 2.0.46-61.ent is needed by (installed) httpd-devel-2.0.46-61.ent
httpd = 2.0.46-61.ent is needed by (installed) mod_ssl-2.0.46-61.ent
But I guess these can/should be updated too.

If it's on RedHat, I think there's an RPM. Or are there some custom configuration you need to do?
