mod_rewrite rule help

Hi,

I'm trying to write a set of RewriteRules to rewrite any of the following URLs:
- http://www.myserver.com/about
- http://www.myserver.com/about/
- http://www.myserver.com/about/?param=value
- http://www.myserver.com/about/?param=value&param2=value2

to the following URL:
- http://www.myserver.com/index.php?page=about
(with any additional request parameters appended to the URL where necessary).

Can anyone help please?

RewriteRule ^about/?$ /index.php?page=about [QSA,L]

if you need a more flexible rule:

RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/?$ /index.php?page=$1 [QSA,L]

Just one additional question actually: if I want to ignore the rule for specific directories, such as /foo/ what would I need to add to the .htaccess file?

I tried:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI}  !=^/foo.*
RewriteRule ^([a-z]+)/?$ /index.php?page=$1 [QSA,L]

without any success though...

You'll need

# starts not with
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI}  !^/foo

to exclude /foo, /foobar

If /foo should be ignored but /foobar permitted,

# maches, if req._uri is not /foo
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI}  !=/foo
