Apache mod_ext_filter and mod_cache - what comes first?

I am about to try a somewhat tricky setup where I will use mod_cache caching and an external filter via mod_ext_filter.

I was wondering if anyone tried it and if you did - does Apache cache "filtered" or "unfiltered" content? I.e., in subsequent calls to a cached page, does it call the filter only once or every time the URL is hit?
