The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Domain Redirection

Asked by zemond in Apache Web Server, Domain Name Service (DNS), Regular Expressions

Gday Guys,

I have 3 domains, that i need to point to the same website. im running an apache webserver on red hat. ( i have complete control over this server)

So whats the best way, i set up the main site and then set up an alias for each of the other domains, then im told thats no good because it will appear as 3 different sites, so I do some checks and the www. subdomain is just an alias also.

so doing a little more reading i can set up a virtual host for each of the other domains and do a redirect and send the 301 response. but this just takes me from the root of the wrong domain to the root of the right domain, so i start looking at regex and end up with something like this, on my virtual host

RedirectMatch permanent ^(.*)$ http://healthcareaustralia.com.au$1

Which didnt work, and if it did i would have to set up a virtual host for all my crappy domains that just need to redirect

So anyway, this is about the time i say fuck it, and go on experts-exchange. because its already 9pm and im tired.

Can I do a 301 redirect without a virtualhost for the redirecting domains, and if so how do i do it so redirectdomain.com/[whatever] goes to actualdomain.com/[whatever]

also can this also be applied for the www to no www,

And if i cant do it without out a virtualhost how do i do it with it.

And if it can be done a better way or a recommened way please let me know

Sincerely,
-- Zemond
