The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Setting up a domain/website under Apache and configuring DNS/Bind

I recently leased my own dedicated Linux server through my web hosting company.  I have full root access to it, and already have it serving up my PHP/MySQL based apps using an IP address.  I now need to configure Apache and DNS so that my apps are served up via domain names, and am hoping that someone here can talk me through that process.

Configuration: CentOS 5, Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5, MySQL 5

I've been uploading my various different applications to the server within subdirectories of my website's root directory.  In other words, I am doing the following:

http://my.ip.address/websitefolder1
http://my.ip.address/websitefolder2
http://my.ip.address/websitefolder3

Here's what I'd like to learn how to do:

1) Configure Apache so that it resolves a particular domain name to "/websitefolder1".  In other words, when users type in my domain name, the server should resolve to the website that's contained within the folder named "/websitefolder1".

2) Create my own name servers (for the same domain) within DNS/Bind (on the same server)

3) Configure DNS/Bind with the needed DNS zone(s) for my domain.  

4) Configure whatever else needs to be configured on the server in order to get my domain name to resolve (ie: modify other config files, .. configure reverse DNS, etc.)

I promise I'll be patient, .. and I'm ready to follow your instructions step-by step.
