How do I limit access to directories in my website?

Hello,

As far as I know it is possible to deny access to directories found in my website. For example, if there is no index page in my images folder, one can access to this directory and see all my files instead of seeing a forbidden message.

So I need exact directives on how to limit access to www.myweb.com/images if there is no index page file in the said directory.
