Makes sense. V2.7 has more http 1.1 support and some of these features have not even been ported to squid 3.x (yet).
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsIve been trying to find any information pertaining to the pitfalls of mod_deflate (encoding) and its effect on Squid/browsers.
FWIW, most browsers request HTTP 1.1. Our Apache servers deliver HTTP 1.1 replies. Squid (our version is v2.6), on the other hand, only handles HTTP 1.0.
Ive read some threads that hint that mod_deflate is buggy as well as Squids lack of proper support for HTTP 1.1 features (including the Vary header, keepalive, etc). I am wondering if it is possible that the HTTP protocol is somehow interfering with Squid in some manner that causes erratic behavior (e.g. slow delivery of gzipped content from its cache, etc.)
I have heard there exists a setting for Apache (force-response-1.0) that was created to get around issues primarily with AOL proxies. This can be set as an environment variable in the shell in which Apache is started or in combination with a browser-match directive in the Apache config file. http://httpd.apache.org/do
Anyone know more about HTTP 1.1/1.0, Squid and Apache and the fun the combination can bring?
