Question

Find Paragraph Differences

Asked by: wulfshayde

Hi all,

Hope someone can help. Don't know how possible this is without third part tools. I want to be able to compare two different paragraphs and highlight the changes between them. I know there is a compare and comparenocase for finding if the string is less than equal to or greater than, but this doesn't actually find the differences. I need a function to compare and highlight differences between paragraph 1 and paragraph 2. Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have found something, and although it works and I could change it/use it as a function for my application its not an ideal solution. I can be found here:

http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/messages.cfm/forumid:4/threadid:34634

I would however still award points to someone who could give me a simpler solution in a cffunction format. :)

have a look here, there was a question I answered similar to what I think you're looking for... the accepted answer is good, however since that answer I've improved it some. You can use what you see there and modify it to your needs or I can help you modify it around what you need...

Thanks trail. So basically, what I have is what I can get. lol.

I found a similar one based on a cost matrix, and it does highlighting as well, works quite good. You deserve the points as your code helped me refine the code that I have to make it work for what I needed. Thanks Trail!

Thanks for the points wulfshayde,

If you needed a hand tuning the code on the other post I can help, just was saying I wasn't too sure how accurate you needed it to be, the one script I had there did good, but there were some cases in there that would slip through the cracks, basically that was for a typing test. But the other version I have caught those little slips as well. you can have a look here...

http://www.cfusionx.com/type/index.cfm

you'll see this catches what the other doesn't after a bit of testing...

let me know =)

I've turned the one I found on that other site into a component with 3 functions. It works well. See below:
