The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Compare partial ip address to sql table for match

Asked by BellHop in ColdFusion Application Server

Tags: ip, address, sql, partial, compare

I've placed a list of over 1000 ip addresses into an sql table. However, many of the ips are partial such as the first three below. Of course, I don't have any problem matching on the full ip, just the partials.

62.119.
193.7.124.
62.172.
62.119.21.157
62.181.185.37

I want to see if the table contains a string in the current remote address and if so set sehit = true.

Search engine ip's are quite often listed with only the class b or c, the group, not the entire ip. So, I'm trying to see if cgi.remote_addr matches to any of the ips, including the partial ips.  But my code because does not work. Can someone help? I need this asap:

<cfparam name="sehit" default="false">

<cfquery name="checkip" datasource="config">
    select ip_address
   from seips
    where ip_address like '#cgi.remote_addr#%'
</cfquery>

<cfif checkip.recordCount gt 0>
  <cfset sehit = true>
</cfif>

I'm also worried that using LIKE to compare, if I get it working, may be too slow on busy system with this code far up front. Maybe there's a better way?
