Question

String Parsing?

Hi,

I have a few strings I need to parse and extract the values from.  The strings are always in this format and I am trying to pull just the number from each one

s_3_WordDoc1.doc
s_5_Excel.xls
s_83_Excel.xls
s_22_Excel.xls

I want to somehow extract just the numerical portion.

I tried

<cfset number = listlast(value, "_") />

But that does not work as there are two _ delimters.

Any help appreciated

If the string is always in that format, grab the second list postion

<cfset value = "s_3_WordDoc1.doc">
<cfset number = listGetAt(value, 2, "_") />

Or with a regular expression:

@mkishline: - how do you know the syntax of reg expressions in general?  I understand what is going in terms of the REReplace but the characters, etc, etc do you have a reference book
