Database driven Email Server

I am developing an application that requires email and user account information to be stored in a SQL database.  I am currently using coolfusion.com which is pretty cool, it lets you  completely program the server using coldfusion code.  The issue is however that they haven't updated it since 05.  

Does anyone know of another email solution that gives the same programming functionality, even if not in coldfusion but maybe java,jsp, asp or the like...   An open source one would be great, but willing to pay.
