It appears we have a problem with the W3SVC service restarting due to an Application Pool hang.

It ends up restarting fine automatically

Description:
The World Wide Web Publishing Service service entered the running state.

But during this it seems to break the link between IIS and Coldfusion. So when you go to a webpage we get blank IIS pages, not coldfusion error pages.
So we try to remove the cluster, and re add it and we get nothing (blank IIS pages).
We then have to restart the server, then re add the the cluster and it starts working fine.
It seems like when the W3SVC service restarts the link between it and Coldfusion doesn't re-connect.
I can't seem to find anything in the logs about it.
Please help this is causing a significant down so we have a significant amount of downtime.
I need help figuring out how or what we need to do so that if this service restarts, it will automatically restart the correct thing to make this link work and the cluster work. This is what I don't know. what actually is broken. Is it another service or is it something else.

Yes we have tried restarting the Cold Fusion application server service.
It is really weird, and like nothing I have seen before. Right what we have done is go back to the application pool hang, and added application pools to get the websites and app pools to a 1:1 basis.
We will monitor this for a while and see if this helps with the issue.

Have you tried restarting the Cold Fusion application server service instead of restarting the whole server?
This almost sounds like ColdFusion is hanging. If that's the case it could cause hung threads in the worker process which could lead to it exceeding shutdown timeouts during a recycle. Also, if it is hung then restarting the worker process is not going to cause the ColdFusion application server service to restart.
