everything you mention is valid. I belive the cd is corrupted.

In order for your .asp pages to work, you must place them in the drive:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ directory (or map a directory in the services manager) then access them from the browser at "http://localhost/asppage.
you can't just double click and open them form Explorer...

ASP is enabled by default in IIS. You probably have to allow for "execute permissions", The setting can be found on the Properties page. Set Execute Permissions to "Scripts Only". And just to verify you can select Configurations and make sure .asp is a valid extension under mappings.
