The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SSL & IIS5 - Problem with Multiple Hostnames Responding

Asked by RyanTX in Microsoft IIS Web Server, E-Commerce

Tags: cert, certificate, iis5, ssl

Greetings,
Straight to the point, here's my problem:

Who I am:
 - A highly experienced programmer and systems administrator who rarely submits a question.

What I have:
 - I have load balanced web servers running Win2K Advanced Server and using Windows Network load balancing to have all servers respond to the same IP and act as one.   All of that is pretty much irrelevant.

What is the problem?
 - All hostnames on my web servers are responding to SSL requests once one site is setup and it is causing chaos.

Explanation:
 - I have TWO (2) test SSL certificates from Thawte installed on two test servers. One per server.
 - Both of these certificates are mapped to the same host address. Ex. secure.mydomain.com
 - I have over a dozen web sites hosted on the same load balanced IP.  All is fine.
 - Once the test site that is intended to be the ONLY secure web is setup and configured with the SSL cert, all web hosts begin to accept SSL requests when Https is added to the domains.
Ex:  https://secure.mydomain.com   is the only SSL configured web
https://www.myotherdomain.com responds to the same web as the originally configured.
https://www.yetanother.com responds to the same web as the originally configured.
 - This is not normal.  I can not figure out why.
 - The other hostnames should respond with DNS error when an HTTPS request is received.

If you have seen this beast in the wild, please help me track him.  It isn't an entirely critical problem, but I would really like to correct the environment.

Let me know,
   -=R=-
