Question

IIS 5

Asked by: Nabsdar

Hi,

Firstly, could you correct me if I am wrong? But I believe you cannot use Host headers for multiple websites with SSL correct?

If that’s the case then how can I set up multiple websites... meaning multiple address to point to one IP...

Secondly, how can I configure another website on IIS using SSL.

What needs to be done to DNS, so it our DNS so it can resolve to the website.

Please explain in detail... I am lost with this one!

Thanks in advance,

Nabs

You can setup multiple sites using host headers, but just not sites that require SSL

See:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q187/5/04.ASP&NoWebContent=1

One IP address per SSL cert is required.

DNS really doens't have anythign to do with setting up SSL ... as long as you can hit http://www.yoursite.com you can hit https://www.yoursite.com

Each time you create a new website in IIS that requires SSL, right click it, hit properties, give it a unique IP address, install your cert, and add port 443. It's that easy ;)

Okay, I with you so far. Now we have our own DNS on site. Which means that we resolve everything ourselves. We don’t' use our ISP.  How would I then create a record within DNS for this new site?

Do I click on our current domain and say new domain or?

Create a new forward lookup zone...

Create a new host in that zone, and point it to the IP address you will use in IIS.

Then you're done.

Use http://www.dnsstuff.com/ to troubleshoot your DNS if needed.

Thank you af500.
I have scoured the web for the last week trying to setup 2 websites with 1 ip.
Everyone posts the easy part ( setting up IIS ), and then they all say you have to setup your DNS, but they never say how.
You managed to answer my question in 2 lines, kudos to you.
All those others should be ashamed for not helping out newbies like myself with such easy instructions.

Thanx again, Anthony.
