Unauthorised view locally

Im trying to setup IIS 6 on windows 2003.

When I try and view the web page on the server I get 'you are not authorised to view this page' and when I try and access it remotly I get 'http 400 bad request'.

I have tried to set the permissions with no sucess, although not 100% sure I have done this right.

I have also tried to remove it and start again, with no sucess.

I have also just typed the servers IP address in and get HTTP 400 - Bad Request error.

Any ideas?

One common reason for this problem is failing to make sure that the IUSR_<servername> account has at least read permissions on the web directory. Check your NTFS permissions on those web files.

a http 400 usually crops up due to a malformed GET request. What is the nature of the page your are accessing (is it a redirect / form / ?)
If you setup a default page as follows can you access it successfully?

check also your httperr.log file in system32\logfiles\httperr to see if any errors are clarified there

The error file is any page on the web server. I have also tried to put a html file up with just the word 'test' in to see if that wil fix it, with no sucess.

I have replaced the servers IP address with ***.***.***.*** for security reasons.
