The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Firewall won't work behind current IIS configuration and DSL modem

Asked by scoleman3 in Microsoft IIS Web Server

Tags: iis, firewall, ip, work, configuration

I am trying to put a Dlink firewall behind my web server and I worked with the top technician at Dlink tech support for quite some time yesterday and he wasn't able to get the issue resolved.  The issue is that after attaching and configuring the firewall, the web site is unreachable.  The tech person said that it is related to IIS configuration but couldn't help me any further.  I believe it is related to the IP address.  After attaching the firewall, the web site appears (stopped) in IIS when I attempt to start, I receive the message "address cannot be assigned" or something close to that.  The properties of the web site show that it uses IP of 65.73.43.150 and when the tech set up the firewall he put that static IP into the external configuration and this seems to cause a problem.  The server's network card is set to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS.  The set-up is such that the server is attached to the firewall and then to the business class dsl modem and out to the internet.  When the server is directly attached to the dsl modem, everything is fine and the firewall tech is absolutely certain that the problem is with how the web server is configured to communicate out.  Any help?
