mySQL Install

I am new to mySQL and i am trying to get this connection to open up

      $SQLusername = xxxxx
      $SQLpassword = xxxxx';
      $SQLdbname = 'xxxxx
      $db = mysql_connect("localhost", $SQLusername, $SQLpassword) or print mysql_error ();
      mysql_select_db($SQLdbname) or print mysql_error ();

but i get this error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\legacybldg.com\html\index.php on line 6

Running Windows 2003 Server Standard
PHP 5.2.2
mySQL 5.0.41

I have a feeling its not making my connection to my mySQL database, do i have the correct version of mySQL?

If anyone can help, please do so
