ASP.NET Virtual Directory path

I have my web working and also have virtual directories working.

How would I get

www.domain.com/virtualdirectory to work with the path below?

http://virtualdirectory.domain.com

They are called subdomains:

Two years back I did it for tripotel.com. Look at
http://chicago.tripotel.com/
http://boston.tripotel.com/

As far as I remember we had different virtual directory for each subdomain, Try to see if your hosting provider can give you any hint.

I think you'll have to create a new web site that with the virtualdirectory.domain.com host header

A DNS entry cannot use a subfolder (real or virtual) as a target.

virtualdirectory.domain.com is a DNS entry that gets converted into an IP address to transfer packets.  It's not an alias for a computer name and a folder.  It is an alias for an IP address or another DNS entry that maps to an IP address.

That is why in IIS you can only add a host header name to the root of a website, not a subfolder.

  You seem to be a pro and that was just about clear as mud to me. So the bottom line is that there's no way to "port-forward" or any wthing else with this on one developement server?

It means that you'll have to either create a new website (in the IIS) that points to the same folder as the virtual folder or to redirect the user to the other path
