IIS Application pool crashes while being accessed by Web Services

We are struggling with a problem where the IIS application pool crashes while being accessed by Web Services provided by Microsoft Dynamics GP. This occurs while attempting to access the customer database but it does not occur if the sample database is used. Apparently a relatively new interface the v9.0 Dynamics GP Web Service is causing even Dynamics GP support professionals to be mystified.
Does anybody out there know what might cause this and how to solve the problem. We have seen information on the net that the problem has never been solved.
We have completely recreated the issue on a totally different machine.
The database is based on the version of SQL Server prior to 2005.
