Question

Citrix Web Interface http to https redirect

Asked by: mrbodjagles

I am using WI 4.2 as my web server.  I am trying to redirect http: to https:.  It works fine when I type https://myserver, but when I do a http://myserver, I get a 403.4 error "HTTP Error 403.4 - Forbidden: SSL is required to view this resource.
Internet Information Services (IIS)"
My knowledge of IIS is zero, so if anyone can provide a step by step for me, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you

Please refer to this how-to for the complete process for enabling http to https redirection:

Yes, its pretty easy. There are a few ways to do this, but this is what I do

1 - go into your C:\Inetpub\wwwroot
2 - Edit your webinterface.htm

Make this change:

<!--
---- WebInterface.htm
---- Copyright (c) 2000 - 2005 Citrix Systems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
---- Web Interface (Build 45083)
-->
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" TYPE="text/javascript">
<!--
window.location="https://Your.FQDN.com/Citrix/MetaFrame/";
// -->
</SCRIPT>

Of course replace Your.FQDN.com with your domain. Let me know how it works out

There are a several ways of achieving this, a common IIS approach is to create a redirection html page, with code like this <SCRIPT type=text/javascript>
<!--
if (location.protocol != 'https:')
{
window.location = 'https://'+ location.host + location.pathname + location.search;
//alert(location.host + location.pathname + location.search); Just for sanity check

}
// -->
</SCRIPT>

And in IIS snap-in, click on web site properties, select custom errors tab, and replace 403;4 with the location of the redirection html page you created with the code above.

If it helps at all, I had the same issue with running CSG3 and WI on the same box w/1 NIC and once I unchecked the IIS Require SSL under the associated Website, it worked correctly.  This allowed CSG to handle all HTTPS requests instead of IIS on port 444.

@Deankas: Excellent and elegant solution, it worked like a charm!
Thank you very much!

That's not fair, the randomly accepted solution for one isn't exactly correct, and both Adambnyc and myself have provided valid solutions and which he had probably followed.

If this is how this site is run....you contribute to a question, take the time to provide detailed and clear answers and then the points rewarded randomly despite other members validating your solution, then what is the point of being on this site.

by: gsimosPosted on 2009-04-27 at 17:36:03ID: 24246837

I agree with Deankas, the selected solution is not acceptable, when someone enables SSL it means that they don't want plain traffic to be used from their website/server etc, this means that the accepted solution is to find a way to force https traffic somehow.

My opinion is that Deankas's solution is the proper one and a universal one in terms of usage (not just Citrix oriented).
