certsrv works for HTTP but HTTPS returns cannot display webpage

I have certificate enrollment pages working on my server using regular HTTP. However, when I put a checkmark next to require SSL in IIS for the certsrv virtual directory, I cannot browse to the page. IE7 says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". However, if I turn off SSL by unchecking that checkbox in IIS, I can get to the pages again.

The new certificate enrollment pages require SSL so I need SSL turned on, but I can't figure out why i'm getting cannot display the webpage and how I should fix this. The problem occurs on all computers even locally on the server and I have tried resetting IE to default settings. I can also connect to other sites on the server perfectly fine.

Sounds like the port isn't associated in IIS.  Open the web site in IIS, right-click and select Properties and make sure that port 443 is listed for SSL connections.

It doesn't sound like IIS is receiving any communication, otherwise you would get an Access Denied or other error.

In the above on the certificates for usage I only have 'server authentication'. I am using a certifcate for OWA2003, does sound right, if not what should the certificate state??, and how do I add something to it??
Many Thanks
Server authentication is appropriate for web server use.  No problems there!
