Intranet Web Server Security Problem with Integrated Windows Authentication

Asked by ptakja in Microsoft IIS Web Server

I have a web server on my Intranet that hosts a department website. Many links on the site point to shares on the server. We have configured the security model to use Integrated Windows Authentication in IIS (disabling Anonymous Access).

The shares are secured with Active Directory group membership.

This model works fine for 97% of the computers in my facility. But for some users, despite having group membership, when they navigate to a secured link, they get prompted for a username & password. For some, when they enter their credentials, they are good to go. Others, nothing works.

I have checked the Custom security settings in the browser (we are still using IE6) to ensure that the Always Prompt option under securty is not checked and that the "Automatic Login only in Intranet zone" option is enabled.

We've tried flushing the cache, reboots, etc... all to no avail.
