Question

Problem using KML file from my IIS6 Server

Hi
I am in the proces of developping a google maps application and am trying to load up data from a KML file into the map.

The code is         GMap1.addGGeoXML(New GGeoXml("http://radicalsoftwaresolutions.co.uk:8080/locations.kml"))

This works fine when I a developping on my local PC but when I access my web site from outside the location tags don't appear.

I have created the Mime type for .kml files and if you browse to the web site you can see the file and if you attempt to open it you are prompted "do you want to save this file or find a program online to open it?"

Google Earth reads KML and KMZ files. The MIME type for KML files is    * application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xmlThe MIME type for KMZ files is    * application/vnd.google-earth.kmz

To add a MIME type to a Web site or directory
1. In IIS Manager, right-click the Web site or Web site directory for which you want to add a MIME type, and click Properties.
2. Click the HTTP Headers tab.

4. Click New.
5. In the Extension box, type the file name extension.
6. In the MIME type box, type a valid MIME type.
If you define a MIME type that has already been defined at a higher level, you are prompted to select the level where the MIME type should reside. To create a MIME type for an undefined MIME type, type an asterisk (*) in the Extension box, and type application/octet-stream in the MIME type box.To create a MIME type for a file without an extension, type a period (.) in the Extension box, and type your MIME type in the MIME type box.

Hi Servoadmin

I had already run through those processes before putting question on EE. Or rather I have added the .kml as I don't propose using KMZ's at this stage.

Anything else you can think of?

Thanks

Footnote to above comment
I added .KML MIME type to the relevant site only (i.e. not at a higher level)

Bit of an update to this

It appears that KML files cannot be processed from ports other than 80. I have moved my KML source to port 80 and added a host header but when I try to HTTP into that folder I get an access denied message so can't even test locally

Any suggestions?

This turned out to be a MIME issue. If you just want to pull KML files into your web site you need to set the mime type for KMl to text
