The version of .NET won't matter unless the program is referencing a version you don't have.

Browse All TopicsI have been handed an asp.net application written by someone else. I am having difficulty getting it to work so far and was wondering if it matters what version of Visual Studio I am using to build it. I am just using the free Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. I have no idea which version of studio the person who created this application in. Does it matter? Can my using a different version cause the application not to work?
I am also unclear on which .NET framework it needs to run in (related question). Is there some place in the code that would indicate this to me?

If you have a .sln file it will be in there (open in Notepad).
Product Version in the project file as well if you have one of those...
