Question

Configuring IIS 5/6 for an HTTP Handler Extension

Asked by: dariuscssii

am following this article to so that my HTTP handler classes can work with static content like .bmp, .html in asp.net.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228090%28VS.80%29.aspx

the Ok button is greyed out when i try to configure in IIS. This is just on my local machine at the moment, just a standard laptop with XP Pro.

following these steps from the article. i edited the content to avoid any copyright infringements :

To map the .sample file name extension to ASP.NET in IIS 6.0

   1. Open the eternal Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
   2. Go on ! do a Right-click the name of your awesome asp.net application, and then click Properties.
   3. Click the beloved Virtual Directory tab, and then click Config
   4. On the Mappings tab, click Add.
5.The Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping dialog box is displayed.

In the Executable box, type or browse to the file Aspnet_isapi.dll. you know where it is..
6.In the Extension box, type .sample.
7.Clear the Verify that file exists check box.
8.Click OK and then close IIS Manager. [ I can't do this !! it is greyed out ]

Hi,

*what* is greyed out?  the 'OK' button?

Cheers.

by: dariuscssiiPosted on 2009-08-12 at 16:33:53ID: 25084243

indeed, yea the 'Ok' button on the Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping dialog box.

by: meverestPosted on 2009-08-12 at 19:58:47ID: 25085172

Hi,

can you post a screenshot of this problem?

cheers.

by: dariuscssiiPosted on 2009-08-13 at 03:59:44ID: 25086930

doesn't matter what i do in that dialog box. the 'ok' button never wants to enable itself.

by: meverestPosted on 2009-08-13 at 05:23:14ID: 25087340

Hi,

try entering a period before the file extension, as in ".bmp" instead of just "bmp", as indicated in the instructions.

Cheers!

by: dariuscssiiPosted on 2009-08-13 at 06:45:59ID: 25088122

that 'ok' button is really hard to persuade

by: meverestPosted on 2009-08-13 at 15:16:54ID: 25093598

that's odd.  I can reproduce your problem when I enter data like the first snapshot, but when I add the period, the OK button becomes active.

are you sure that c:\windows\..\aspnet_isapi.dll actually exists in that location?  Apparently it is in the drive root(?)

Cheers.

by: dariuscssiiPosted on 2009-08-13 at 18:23:13ID: 25094611

apparently, yea they'll being mapped there.

by: meverestPosted on 2009-08-14 at 00:14:32ID: 25095770

well,... but you see that none of them are explicitly "c:\windows\..\aspnet_isapi.dll" - what happens if you try to use "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll" instead?

Cheers.
