Hi,
1. generally, you do not need to backup your system to update setHostname - depends on how cautious you want to be. I have never had a problem doing this on a prunning system, but that doesn't mean that you won't have a problem either ;-)
2. you probably can use a dummy hostname, but why would you want to do that? better to set it as the correct hostname for the application or system.

Can I make up a host name, then run SetHostName to assign that fictitious name? So when the PCI security scan is run, it reports back the fictitious host name rather then the IP address of the server.
Or does the Host Name need to be a FQDN?
