The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. How to password protect in IIS7 for non-.NET website (like .htaccess)?

I have websites in all kinds of languages, such as perl, php, asp, etc. I would like to password protect some of them by placing Web.config files in them with the appropiate authentication methods, sort of how the .htaccess works in Apache. This way, users have to log in to view the page.

The first thing I did was I disabled "Anonymous Authentication" so my page is not viewable to the public. Then I added authorized users in my Web.config. I would like the user to browse using the "NETWORK SERVICE" account when they authenticate, so I added the impersonate attribute to the Web.config.

The problem is that the website does not take me to the login page, but instead it goes straight to a 401 unauthorized page. Can anyone help with this? I have my Web.config and login.aspx below.
