Question

"You Are Not Authorized To View This Page" Message

When viewing a locally hosted ASP.Net app (using http://localhost/) in Internet Explorer, I can view a site just fine.

But, when I try using another browser (Firefox, Opera, etc.), I get the "Authentication Required" pop-up asking for login credentials. If I cancel the dialog, the "You are not authorized to view this page" message is displayed.

Why the different behavior based on the browser type?

Most likely the site is set up as a local intranet and you'll find that authentication is required. IE automatically detects local intranets and enables automatic authentication whereas non MS web browsers don't.

your website is using Integerated Windows Authentication (Under IIS Security Settings). You can change that to BASIC and it will work in all browsers. However then even in IE you need to input user/pwd.

Integerated Auth is Windows only.

I've seen sites set up with "Anonymous Access" before that worked and didn't seem to have this issue.
