IIS & File Download Access - Custome Web Application

Hi,

We have our own custom built website application that users log into (initially based of DotNetNuke but has since developed). Within the site we have a downloads section and links to the files for users to download. At present we restrict which files users have access to by only revealing the URL's to those files that the user needs but we have recently had a case where a user was able to guess the exact URL for a file they were not supposed to access... How would we stop this...?

You could:
1- put files in a secure folder, unreacheble from web or protected by anonymous access
2- filter all download request by an apsx page or (better) by an handler .ashx which could check the security before deploy file, so the link to downlod would appera like checkdownload.ashx?fileid=myfile.zip
3- to avoid to save file with the name of this page change file name in header according to file name to download
