url not found when browsing local site on IIS server

I host a managed win2003 server with IIS 6 for a company that uses CURL in programming. I recently added ISA device. They can no make calls back to their own site. In code these are to theirdomain.com and some to www.theirdomain.com .  I edited hosts file to point theirdomain.com and  www.theirdomain.com at local IP. This worked for theirdomain.com but not for www.theirdomain.com . Fix? Was this right approach to fixing issue in the first place? Recommendations?

you did this on /all/ computers that need to access, right?

If one of them works and the other does not, then I suggest that you double check the hosts file entry to make sure that it is done correctly - yes, it /should/ work ok like that.

This is IIS Server that was trying to resolve CURL in webapp to itself. Inital hosts file change and dns cache flush did not resolve it not looking to local address. A couple reboots later and it just started using hosts file and pointing www at its own address.

Reread my initial question, I was not clear IIS server was only one I was trying to resolve URL's to.
