The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

OWA & OMA options missing from CEICW - they used to be there.

Asked by shapv in SBS Small Business Server, Exchange Email Server, Microsoft IIS Web Server

Tags: , , ,

Hi all,

I have an SBS 2003 Pro server that I installed approx 2 months ago. Current problem virtual directories for OWA, OMA and activesync are not installed. When I run CEICW the options for OWA and Mobile email are not included in the wizard. CEICW errors out and does not create any of the VD's.

I may post more information below then is needed but it's easier to provide all of the background at once.

Everything on the server was working perfectly until I reran CEICW last Monday and ActiveSync with my WM phone stopped working. Why did I rerun CEICW..... I guess I had not had enough coffee yet that morning. After a reboot the server popped the CEICW wizard and I ran through it instead of cancelling.

Server Environment
SBS 2003 Pro SP1

Installed Components
Exchange, IIS, intranet, RWW, SQL 2000, Exchange SP2.
Components not installed - ISA

The server has 2 NIC's installed but 1 is disabled.

Also installed WSS 3 according to the appropriate kb's. Everything was fine for over a month.

What I've done since Activesync stopped working:
1. Set and reset authentication on various of the Exchange VD's with no positive result.
2. Yesterday I finally:
2a. Used adsutil to remove NTLM authentication from IIS metabase.
2b. Followed kb 883380 method 2 to recreate the Exchange VD's.
2c. KB 883380 indicates that the VD's should recreate themselves. Even after a reboot they did not, so I ran CEICW. This created all of the VD's except exchange-oma. I created exchange-oma manually. At this point OWA, OMA and ActiveSync all worked YAY!!

A few hours later I checked my mobile and noticed I was not getting a sync. I was back to getting a status 850100001. So I figured no problem, I will recreate the VD's again......

I once again deleted the VD's used adsutil.vbs to delete ds2mb and went to rerun CEICW. As mentioned at the beginning of this post the CEICW wizard is not even showing the options to allow OWA or mobile access. When I ran CEICW anyway it did not create any of the Exchange VD's and it errored out during the email configuration step.

Outlook and RPC over HTTP are still working fine.

I have attached the last run from icwlog.txt

I would really appreciate any suggestions on what to do next. I am trying hard to avoid a wipe and reinstall.
