I do not think its an IIS setting - This type of security is browser based and set in the options of Internet Explorer. Having the Web server have the ability to change this would be a security risk.

That said, if it is internal users, you can roll the settings for this out through Active Directory Group Policies (if applicable).

I would have to say this probably wouldnt be possible, because if it was possible to programatically modify the trusted sites list without user intervention (or even with), it would inherit a huge security risk.

You can however modify this via a centrally managed group policy, which would set this setting on all of your domain workstations.. You could do this with the following group policy option..

You can not programatically place a site in the trusted sites of IE - and on other browsers its called different things.

So instead use javascript to display a message  asking them to add the site to their trusted sites/zones.

Example:

<html>
<head>
<script>
function addtrust() {
alert('Please add this site to your Trusted Zones.\nTo do that go to your browser options tab\nand add this www.xyz.com to the list of trusted sites\n\nThank you')
}
</script>
</head>
<body onLoad="addtrust()">
<table><tr><td>Hallo World</td></tr></table>
</body>
</html>

I saw on win2k3 machines, whenever i visit the web site it ask me to add the site in trusted zone.
Anybody know, how to make it possible?

by: cammjPosted on 2007-09-19 at 02:27:33ID: 19919170

The message you are getting on the 2k3 machines is because of Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration that comes with Windows 2003 Server by default. This ties down the security permissions so you cant view/use certain content on untrusted sites. As far as I am aware, this feature is only available with Windows 2003.

@cammj: you are perfectly correct and in any event the function doesn't actual put the sites in to the trusted zone at the time of display.

@syswareinc: sorry - but - the answer remains ...
you can not do what you want to do other than the way I have suggested as a workaround.

the only problem being if the security levels are too high to run javascript
